Our U16s Grizzlies narrowly lost out to Northwich on Saturday 6th December, after staging an incredible comeback in the second half that wasn't quite enough on the day.

Q1 began evenly, with Nile, Ben & Josh each grabbing baskets in the opening moments, but Northwich were giving as good as they got. Despite more scores from Will, Nile & Max it was Northwich that nudged ahead, ending Q1 with a 5pt lead at 17-12.

Q2 started with Ben & Josh adding to their tallies, but it was Northwich that kept the ball better, to open up a 22pt lead midway through the quarter, with the Grizzlies having mountain to climb. However, a string of successful drives from Josh and another basket from Max dragged the Grizzlies back from the brink to end the quarter 11pts down at 43-32, and back in the game.

The second half began with three Northwich scores took their lead back up to 15pts. The Grizzlies began to press high and break well though, and good finishes from Nile, Josh and Ben kept the Grizzlies scoreboard ticking over, and by the end of Q3 they had reduced the deficit to just 9pts at 57-48 and looked to have the momentum going into the final period.

And so it proved to be, as Q4 saw Luka, Josh, Max & Nile all scoring to bring it all the way back to a 1pt game. A Northwich time-out saw them regroup and they found form to re-establish a 7pt lead - only for a quickfire treble from Josh, including a big 3-pointer that brought his individual game total to a season-best 40pts, saw the two teams separated by just 2pts.

However, as the clock ticked into the final minute, Northwich denied the Grizzlies with a last-ditch block, then scored their final point from the free-throw line to settle the game and take the win 70-67 win.

After giving themselves much work to do in the first half, it was an awesome fightback from the players in the second. The squad showed the right attitude, physicality, and good teamwork to claw themselves out of a hole - and after picking themselves up and dusting themselves down, the Grizzlies will look to take this into the next game on Saturday - a home game vs Bromborough Bulldogs.
